Isabelle Berquin

Isabelle Berquin is an artist by passion, a scientist by training, and a translator by trade. Her work in biomedical research has profoundly influenced her art technique. She likes to experiment with various media, working primarily in watercolor and ink. Printmaking has captured her interest because of its ability to layer various images and methods to create unique, yet related pieces that tell a story. She enjoys the whole process: from designing a piece to carving, etching, masking, or otherwise modifying a printing surface, to applying ink and transferring images to paper, each step amplifies the previous one. Then the cycle is repeated based on the discoveries made. Through her art, Isabelle aims to highlight the beauty found in the natural and man-made world around her.

Isabelle was born in Belgium and moved to Michigan after graduating from college. She has been calling Winston-Salem home since 2002.
