2025 Art Extravaganza

Artfolios will be hosting the 2025 Art Extravaganza on Sunday, June 8th from 12-4pm at The Millennium Center in Downtown Winston-Salem. The Millennium Center is located at 101 W. 5th Street; Winston-Salem, NC 27101. (Entry will be from the Trade Street side of the building.) During this one-day extravaganza, talk to artists as they create, shop our boutique market, participate in an "Artist Talk," and explore our curated gallery collections while enjoying live musical performances by Jonathan Borton, piano. Hors d'oeuvres. The event is free and open to the public: all are welcome!

Artists who will be creating live at the event include Amy A. Bronson (mixed media and collage artist), Bryn Childers (acrylic painter), Laurie Basham (pastel painter), and Virginia Shepley (acrylic gouache painter).



"Artist Talks" hosted by Dr. Heidi Hart



"Artist Talks," hosted by Dr. Heidi Hart, will include conversations with Melrose Tapscott Buchanan (12:45pm), Carrie Leigh Dickey (1:45pm), and Kimberly Varnadoe (2:45pm).


Who is Dr. Heidi Hart?

Dr. Heidi Hart is a researcher and curator with a focus on environmental arts. She holds a PhD from Duke University and has published numerous books and articles on art and ecology, sound and music in environmental arts, and music in political context. Her curatorial work includes the arts assemblage Climate Thanatology (Copenhagen 2022), the dance and visual art performance Adventura Botanica (Kalmar, Sweden, 2023), and a forthcoming project on climate adaptation reflected in music (Berlin 2026). Her latest book, Piano Decompositions (co-authored by Beate Schirrmacher), explores artworks involving burning, decaying, and drowning instruments in ecological perspective. Heidi is a guest instructor at Linnaeus University in Sweden and a Nonresident Senior Research Fellow in climate and environment with the European Center for Populism Studies.



Jonathan Borton, piano

Jonathan Blake Borton was a Vittorio Giannini scholar at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts High School Division, where he studied both solo and collaborative piano. Since then, he has participated in masterclasses by Robert Blocker, Frank Glazer, Joseph Kalichstein, Robert McDonald, Oriole Plans, Awadagin Pratt, and the Ying Quartet.


In 2006 Jonathan was featured soloist in Serge Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, performing for 4,000 students. Concurrently, he was featured soloist in George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra Ballet. Jonathan won First-Prize in the 2010 North Carolina Music Teachers National Association Young Artists Competition, and as a result, was invited to be a participant in the Tibor Varga Music Festival in Sion, Switzerland.


In addition to being staff accompanist at Salem College, Wake Forest University, and Centenary United Methodist Church, Jonathan frequently collaborates with various vocalists and chamber groups in the Piedmont Triad Area, including the Greensboro Symphony Master Chorale. He received his B.M. (magna cum laude) in Piano Performance from Salem College, where he studied with Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink.
