Breacadh/Dawn of A New Day, 2024
Artist: True Whiting
About the Artwork: This painting depicts the gentle awakening to a new day and the awakening of the Earth in Springtime. It is also inspired by hope that comes with each new beginning in life in which we are born again. We see this represented as a young fairy dozing in the hollow of a tree, bathed in the early morning light. This fairy was inspired by tales of the birth of the Springtime goddess, Brigid, who was said to have been born with a rainbow shining from her forehead. The hollow itself hits at the form of a pregnant belly suggesting the ripening of Springtime. This is the 2nd work in the series, Face of the Goddess: Medicine paintings through the portal of old Irish, which explores Irish language and mythology of the sacred feminine.
This series is made possible by an Artist Support Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, the Arts Council of Greater Greensboro and the Winston Salem Arts Council.
