Passing Through, 2020
Artist: Terri Dowell-Dennis
About the Artwork: This artwork is a quilt that investigates ancestry, American history, and healing. The title comes from the Celtic healing tradition called “passing through” where people, often children, were passed through natural openings in stones or trees as a healing measure. Small stones with natural holes in them are sometimes referred to as hagstones, and this quilt has nine of them sewn into its surface.
Media: Cotton fabric and thread, machine and hand-stitched, hagstones
Dimensions: 56" wide by 57" tall
