About the Artwork: 
Bird: Little bittern (Ixobrychus minutus)
 
Standing in the wings at the Palais Garnier, these aspiring ballerinas in pink tutus and point shoes are watching the famous Renée Marcelle "Zizi" Jeanmaire perform the title role in “Carmen.” They hope to some day perform with the Paris Opera Ballet in “Atys”—a three act tragédie lyrique by Niccolò Piccinni.
 
About the Art with Heart Donation: When purchased, a portion of the proceeds from this "Opera Bird" will be gifted to the Piedmont Opera. The Piedmont Opera produces the highest quality opera productions possible by using international, national, regional and local professional singers and technicians. Though located in Winston-Salem, the Opera attracts patrons from 16 states and communities throughout the Piedmont, Upstate, and Virginia.
