Ganesh, 2024
Artist: True Whiting
About the Artwork: Prior to painting this Ganesh, I began a 232 day Ganesh mantra practice. I practiced the mantra:Om Śrīm Hrīm Klīm Glaum Gam Ganapatayei Varavarada Sarvajanam Me Vaśamānaya Svāhā! The meaning of the mantra is: "I pray to Sri Ganesh to help all people of this world to be good and to have a blessed life." Ganesh is considered to be the remover of obstacles. He brings blessings of positivity and removes heaviness. This mantra in particular is said to bestow peace and good fortune as well as removes obstacles for a harmonious and prosperous life. My experience of chanting this mantra was an immediate experience of joy and lightness. I reflected this through the motif of the sun and petals, the colors of saffron and teal and by finger painting the body of Ganesh himself.
