About the Artwork: The Thaw Begins captures the fleeting transition after a rare North Carolina snowfall, as melting ice and reflected light transform the landscape into shifting blues and softened forms. Expressive mark making and layered color evoke motion and impermanence, marking the quiet moment when winter loosens its hold and change begins.
