About the Artwork: Some paintings arrive almost complete. The colors and form seem to happen virtually immediately. Others, however, can take months, some even years it seems before they are finished.
 
This one, "Fall Flowers on Carson's Farm," was one of the more difficult ones.
 
It was painted over at least twice

On the last restart, I put it up after a bit and left the studio. I went to do what I do every night, sketch on cocktail napkins with Sharpie pens, while drinking beer and watching old movies.
 
This sketch* came to me that evening. Through it, the painiting resolved itself.
 
I finished the painting the next morning.

Notes: This piece is part of “The Shaffner Collection.” The Shaffner Inn, and Founders Resturant, is located at 150 Marshall St SW, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Artwork can be viewed Tuesday-Sunday 8am-4pm. Arrangements will be made for purchased artwork to be picked up directly from the Inn.
