About the Artwork: My “828” series draws from my experience living in the mountains of western North Carolina. The number refers to the area code of several western NC counties. In this series, I include known landscapes and locations that begin with sketching, photographs, or plein air painting and purely imagined scenes of Appalachia’s majestic mountain views. In either case, I rarely utilize realistic painting techniques or expected color palettes. 828 no. 6 captures subtle cloud shadows over an expansive mountain landscape. It combines an impressionistic approach with a traditional color palette to convey a vibrant, living environment.
