Golden hour on Rich Mountain (828 no. 7), 2025
Artist: William Schumann
About the Artwork: Rich Mountain is the third-highest mountain in the “High Country” of Watauga County, North Carolina at 4,748 feet. For almost five years, I had the privilege of living on the mountain at 4,000 feet and observing daily and seasonal changes in flora and fauna above me. Golden hour on Rich Mountain captures the soft changes of light at the end of a day in late spring 2025. With its decidedly textured and impressionistic approach, this painting forms part of my “828” series, which draws inspiration from a multi-county area of northwestern-most NC.
