About the Artwork: My “828” series draws from my experience living in the mountains of western North Carolina. The number refers to the area code of several western NC counties. For almost five years, I had the privilege of living on Rich Mountain in Watauga County, which stands at 4,748 feet. After painting the mountain several times using a traditional color palette (or as traditional as I get, anyway!), Rich Mountain in Red is an wider interpretation that anticipates the bright colors of fall, but with pinks, reds, and touches of purple and orange that pop against the greens and browns of the mountain’s underpainting. An electric blue sky activates the color choices across the entire painting.
